How Tweet It Is To Be Loved By You!
It is difficult for new writers to ‘get their work out there.’ We are as a shoal of fish being tossed this way and that in an ever-changing Internet ocean. We are not big fish in a small pond, but tiny, minuscule fish in an Amazonian sea of self-promotions.
We try to stand out. We wrack our brains thinking of this sales technique or that, always trying to entice the reader to read us. After all, being read and enjoyed is the air we breathe, the liberation of a writer’s soul! We scour the Internet looking for information about ‘how to sell.’ Alternatively, those capitalising on our sales ignorance bombard our email boxes, face book pages, and twitter accounts with ‘follow me’ recipes guaranteed to bring instant fortune. Meanwhile, we try to wear every hat, self-promote, write the blog, tweet the tweet, tick the box and like the page, until there is little time left for writing.
This is why, I decided to create a new way of operating, of rocking and rolling in this gigantic, virtual ocean. I realised that by working together with others who are willing to support each other, we can do business a different, beautiful way. My strategy involves ‘Paying it Forward.’ I wanted to generate goodwill instead of Narcissism, and develop new networks, make new friends and generally not feel quite so lonely.
This describes my initiative with this blog site: a new approach to publishing and, hopefully, developing a strong, exciting, creative and innovative voice. I want us to be heard for our sweetness of tone, rather than being forced to shout, “Look at me, look at me!” Many collaborative promotional initiatives feed into this project such as supporting causes. After all, for some of us, it is easier to promote someone else’s wonderful work rather than rave about our own. (We are, of course, also capable of that, when asked!) Above all, I have been discovering other great talents.

Funny you should mention all the twitter traffic. I was just going through tweets and about 90% are “buy me,” “read me,” “please read,” me, me, me. Thank goodness for Plum Tree! It’s time for writers to put the narcissism in a drawer and work together to get good stories, well presented, out there. Excellent post, Niamh!

As a ‘new’ writer who has written for more years than most people on the planet have lived; who has transitioned from filling up round containers with papers and calling the words on them either rubbish, trash, or garbage then transitioning to our simpler times of holding down a ‘delete’ key and obliterating them painlessly, I agree that there is a certain sadness in the narcissistic push of ‘look at me and what I can do.’ We have, sadly, become a planet of reality shows. Just wanted to say I trust that as we climb ‘The Plum Tree’ together we will each enjoy the self-fulfillment within the creativity we express and also the interconnectivity of appreciation for one another.

I have been reading other pages. I clicked HELLO WORLD today and I must salute you for what you are doing. I was in 1979 detailed by the Army as a Liaison Officer with Reinhold Messner’s K2 Expedition which was sponsored (story) by German Magazine Der Spiegel. We were hiking our way to Base camp and on every stop we climbed higher and higher till we reached the last village in the wilderness. At night I was called from my bivouac to to come and act as a translator. Well I entered a dark room with a lantern in one corner with old and young sitting on their haunches listening to the oldest man narrating a story. So old man gave the story in local dialect which i did not understand. The next guy translated it in URdu for me. I translated it in English and Joachim a Swiss wrote it in his own language. This went on for 2/3 hours into the night. I asked the locals when will the story finish. Every one gave a big laughter when the old man said “In one week” I asked Joachim why was he doing it we will not be able to finish the story as we move on in the morning. He said said “Terry (my friends call me that) I will write this as a story for the Swiss Children” and next thing which he said, though very paltry in nature but has stuck in my mind ” ALL KNOWLEDGE IS USEFUL” and what you are doing is exactly the same. How it is done is not important but the end result is very edifying.

My goodness, being nominated for another award is fabulous. I am so grateful. I have to admit to feeling a little guilty as I have not yet had a chance to reciprocate and join in. i see you tweeted about your book The Coming of the Feminine Christ. my idea of trying to get it on interlibrary loan was not successful. got a post card from library – it was a no go. i am so looking forward to reading this. can hardly wait for the ebook to be released. all the reviews on amazon were 5 stars out of 5 and the reviews were intriguing and oh so absolutely positive. jen

i am so hoping there will be a great demand. i will wait patiently to read it. most libraries won’t loan out out-of-print books but i was still going to try. the copy i told you about that was priced at over $400 must have been a 1st edition. at one time i actually worked in two diffrent libraries. first job was in the public library in Westport, CT. and the other was at Bennington College in Vermont where Shawn studied and graduated as a Theatre Major. one of my responsibilities there was to acquire interlibrary loans for faculty and students. i loved being around books. jennifer ps. someday you will have to tell me how you researched your …Feminine Christ book. i’d love to hear your stories.

I have included a bibliography, which is extensive. That took care of the academic research. I do tell the story of discovery in the book. It is a spiritual journey based on experience and located within a wider psychological and philosophical field. I am really looking forward to its release. the time is right!

my two favorite areas of study: psychology and philosophy an add a spiritual journey and i’m good. it sounds like you put a great deal of work, time and effort into creating this book. yes, i agree, the world is in need of your book. it will create a spiritual field that will hopefully effect the energy waves of the planet toward the good. t create such an extensive bibliography you must have been reading night and day while working on your book. i will be patient. good vibrations will resonate. oh, if you have the time, i put together a post on my blog in dedication to T and to you and how you have helped to influence me so positively. you will understand once you see it, read it and listen to the music. peace and love, jen

Once again. Thank You. The book was 9 years work from 1989 – 1998. The bibliography was thirty years of study and reading with a Ph.D thrown in for good measure. It is NOT an academic work but expressed through the metaphor of the Grail myth; as only through metaphor can we describe the Thing’s of God’s that cannot be known in any other way. The academic supports the work, which is experiential moving from the personal to the trans-personal. It is prophetic. Where I use a specific term, which is necessary and specific, I explain its meaning as simply as possible. Oh! And it is laced with poetic prose.

oh, i love poetic prose. you put in a total of 39 yrs combined and overlapped into this gem. your mind must have been overflowing with metaphysical rhetoric and mythological expansion. i am using the term rhetoric using the defintion: the art of using words effectively in speaking or writing. your mind overfloweth. ah,the good old Holy Grail. That is where te expansion comes in – doing the God Thing. I remember philosphy in college. I was my philosphy professor’s student assistant. she let me hang out in her office with other students where we would discuss the existence of all Things God and where was the end of the Universe and it’s creation and our minds would reach to the furthest distance in space before it would almost explode or implode from stretching it beyond it’s means of comprehension. mind bending, i would call it. it was so trippy. brings out the stoner hippie in me. containing all those facts and theories in your mind must have felt quite similar. you did an amazing feat reaching your PhD. now i just want the opportunity to view or bear witness to your genius. simplicity is a good thing. it actually makes the mind expand in a less explosive manner but can have the same effect as complexity – first knowledge then wisdom. you were being empirical but i am not sure i understand what you mean by going from the personal to the trans-personal. do you mean you transformed your thoughts into a prophetic explanation of your findings? to be less serious and travel down the comedic road, when i see or hear the word Grail – Holy Grail, it makes me think of Terrry Gilliam – Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I know they are sacriligious. The title of your book has me so curious. What do you mean by The Coming of the Feminine Christ. Does the Holy Grail belong to a Christ who is female or to a Christ who incorporates The Great Feminine and enjoins true androgyny? I’m getting into that trippy space again. You have that effect on me. By the way, from quite early yesterday morning, as you probalby can tell, my mind is in a totally different realm. I have to go now. Think about what I question. Crossing over from the personal to the trans-personal means just that: crossing over from that which solely has personal meaning to that which has meaning for the many. Travelling deeply into core personal issues eventually brings us into communion with the pain that belongs to us all. A certain amount of detachment becomes possible as we realise that what underlies Psyche is a core psychic content. We experience archetypes and encounter the profound and transcendent. The Christ to which I refer is not an embodied Christ. This Christ is an archetype, not born of the womb but of the pure in heart. It belongs to universality and yet is within us in potential…That Christ comes about through the conjunctio, the Inner sacred marriage between masculine and feminine principles. The grail is of the mystical heart and, once awakened, bestows on us the grace of vision, prophecy and spiritual compassion,

I think we are all so busy that we have no time to live anymore. I have a soft spot for you, Martha. You got me with your descriptions of Bohemia, and you always write so well. As you may have gathered I LOVE good writing and a lively intellect. Would love you to have more of a role in Plum Tree Books, but I do understand that we have to breathe too.! Oh! And sleep occasionally. Any time…we are here.

Congratulations on such a different blog site. I love the idea of authors supporting each other and paying it forward.
