Contemporary Marsha Randolph

Despite the number of classifications available for books there are so many stereotypes associated with each I cringe at the thought of placing my books under any particular genre.  Technically I write Urban Christian Fiction yet after visiting an Urban Christian Fiction site I was not pleased with the association.  If I tell people I write women’s fiction it will limit my audience to those who like “girly” books. Then there is the general classification African-American Fiction (Ugh) though good for sales during Black History month it is just as limiting as Women’s fiction.

I do appreciate the clean and simple category my book is listed under at Orangeberry Books: Contemporary.

I believe there is no stereo-type associated with this genre and therefore the cover, title and ‘about’ section become very important. The field is open to Christian and non-Christian, male and female, as well as people of all ethnicities. I consider my books reality based though biblically inspired which makes them suitable for anyone.

I love taking a biblical character and modernizing her story such as Vashtai who was married to King Xerxes for quite a while and then replaced with Esther.  In “The Truth About Vashtai” the reader is taken on one woman’s journey as she learns to gain control of her life after her divorce to the man she thought she would be with forever.  Ironically, recently, I was talking to a woman who was on antidepressants because she was going through a divorce after twenty years of marriage.  My next book “Ishmael’s Mother is based on the character Haggar, she had a baby by a married man. And I have also completed the draft of a book discussing different women in a community called Shunem, there I talk about Leah a woman married to a man who openly loved someone else.

I began writing fiction under the name Marsha Randolph adding the “L” later because I have since learned there is a photographer named Marsha Randolph living in the same state I do. Recently I began using M L Floyd to reflect a more serious aspect of my writing; Inspirational Thought. These eBook available are available via Smashwords.

I have known since 1995 that I wanted to write. Despite having 5 websites, a guest blog position on another site, two books out, 3 books in various forms of editing, a book I am getting ready to convert to a screenplay and several books I plan on writing I did not think of myself as a writer until recently. I was talking to a friend one day and I said: “I was born to be a writer.”  That day I became a writer.
