Why Not Write A Poem For Your Mother?

Art By Marta Pelrine Bacon

Art By Marta Pelrine Bacon

We have started to receive some wonderful entries for our poetry anthology. And the art is also pouring in. I am looking for succinct, say-something-really-special about the subject of MOTHER from any perspective! The book will be beautifully illustrated with as many original pieces of art as come our way.

Just look at this wonderful, quirky piece by one of our favourites, Marta Pelrine Bacon! Don’t you just love that woman ~ Marta, I mean?

This book will be an important testimonial to all things MOTHER.

We hope to include children’s poems and children’s art, also.

Submissions by June 5th to niamhclune@plumtreebooks.co.uk

Publication as e-book by July 5th

Help us make this a thing of beauty and a joy forever! And if we are lucky enough to make enough e-book sales, I will put the book into print! It will make an exquisite gift for the most important person in your life!

About Dr Niamh

When I was a little girl (a very, very long time ago), I used to love learning new, really big words like ‘discombobulate’. As I grew, my love of words grew too, until I loved them so much, I could not stop writing them down. One day, as I was scribbling a particular word, a very peculiar thing happened. The word shouted at me, “Stop! Don’t put me there!” As you can imagine, I was shocked and nearly fell off my chair. When I recovered somewhat, I said to the word, “Could you stop shouting, please? I am not used to it.” Can you guess what happened next? No! I thought not. The word said, “I might be small, but I will misbehave if you do not use me properly. I will not tell the story you would like me to tell. I will say something entirely different!” I dropped my pen. I hoped that by dropping my pen, the word would stop talking. Alas! It did not. It carried on chitterchobbling, even after the ink had dried. I was in a pickle. I could not allow my words to run away with my story, now could I? I don’t know about you, but when this sort of thing happens, there is only one thing left to do if you prefer not to spend your time arguing. “Very well,” said I. “I will do as you ask if you will just be quiet and allow me to concentrate.” Since that day, I have been paying special attention to every word I invite into my stories. After all, a story should say exactly what it means to say and not be led astray. With love from Dr. Niamh, Ph.D in Learning Through The Imagination and Founder of Dr Niamh Children's Books. www.drniamhchildrensbooks.com

My e-mails to you keep coming back undeliverable. I’m wondering if you’re having problems with that Heartbleed bug or if you’ve been inundated with submissions?

No! I don’t understand. Maybe I copied it down wrong in the post: niamhclune@plumtreebooks.co.uk. I would love to receive your poem, Priscilla. If that doesn’t work, drop me a FB message. Thank you.

My server is telling me that it wants a .com in your address somewhere. I don’t understand why that’s a problem because I’ve sent messages to your address before. I don’t have a FB account, though. I’ll keep investigating.

Thanks. I did try replying to an e-mail you send me a while ago, and that bounced back as well, but I will try again.

Good grief! So sorry you are having all this trouble. I sent you an email from the plumtreebooks account, so you should have it to reply to. Really don’t understand.

I think it’s a Google/Yahoo Heartbleed bug issue. What I did was to send you a private share post from my gmail or Google + page. I hope you can see it there. * fingers crossed *

I have received it in google plus! Thank you with a resounding YES! Where there’s a will, there’s a way. I am a bit concerned though that emails are bouncing back from me…don’t know how to tackle it!

Interesting idea. I just heard of this, which is a shame. I would have contributed. But I do know of one young girls art that has been submitted and it is beautiful. I hope to see Josie’s work in the anthology. She is one terrific kid and artist. Good luck with the anthology.
