The Plum Tree Year Ahead! It Will Be Busy!

I have many things planned for 2013…

Plum Tree Books will be:

• Featuring some of the poets who have participated in various Plum Tree Books’ anthologies…bless them all!
• Featuring some of my wonderful fellow writers…
• Publishing writers Arianne Meyer and Marta Pelrine Bacon.
• Launching a new series of children’s books
• Launching the Plum Tree Range of cards with attachable poems…

Arianne’s book is based on her life journey as she shares with us how she healed from shocking abuse. It is a wonderful, inspiring story, and I am proud to publish it.

Marta Pelrine Bacon’s novel: The Blue Jar is a quirky tale that is absolutely compelling to read. Marta is a new author and a gifted artist. Again, I am proud to publish her. I don’t have the cover to show you yet, as the book is still in the editing stage. But here is a picture of one of the beautiful Greetings Cards illustrated by Marta for Plum Tree Books. P.s. These cards come with attachable poems and are unique! I have found some wonderful artists, including Marta Pelrine Bacon, Maria Antonietta Terrana, and Susie Bertie whose images I have captured and now share with you. All of these ladies donated works to auction for the Song Of Sahel earlier in the year.

I will also be launching a range of niche children’s books that I have written with illustrations from Marta and Maria.

George and the Frog is the first in the series focusing on helping children with their emotions. In this first story, we find George coming face to face with the death of his frog. His grandfa’ is there to help, of course!

In the second story of this series, we will meet Anabel Wagstaff who throws a tantrum! A story for children and parents about how to cope with temper! It is completely written in rhyme!

With gorgeous illustrations by award-winning artist, Maria Antonietta Terrana, we feel this series of books will have broad appeal.

The second Plum tree series is all about how everything in the garden serves a purpose. Really, it is basic science for small children. The garden, after all, is a magical place and the natural eco-system is a thing of wonder. In the first story, Rosie learns the purpose of wearing wellington boots!

In the second story, Wolly The Worm, Rosie learns how worms bring food to the table.

Marta Pelrine-Bacon adds her magical, quirky touch to the illustrations.

And I must not forget to mention my own impending publication: the follow-up to Orange Petals In A Storm in the Skyla McFee series: Exaltation Of A Rose.

As both of these stories are novella sized, I have incorporated them into one book. This is so that those of you who have not read Orange Petals In a Storm may do so as the precursor to Exaltation Of A Rose. More on this later.

When I was a little girl (a very, very long time ago), I used to love learning new, really big words like ‘discombobulate’. As I grew, my love of words grew too, until I loved them so much, I could not stop writing them down. One day, as I was scribbling a particular word, a very peculiar thing happened. The word shouted at me, “Stop! Don’t put me there!” As you can imagine, I was shocked and nearly fell off my chair. When I recovered somewhat, I said to the word, “Could you stop shouting, please? I am not used to it.” Can you guess what happened next? No! I thought not. The word said, “I might be small, but I will misbehave if you do not use me properly. I will not tell the story you would like me to tell. I will say something entirely different!” I dropped my pen. I hoped that by dropping my pen, the word would stop talking. Alas! It did not. It carried on chitterchobbling, even after the ink had dried. I was in a pickle. I could not allow my words to run away with my story, now could I? I don’t know about you, but when this sort of thing happens, there is only one thing left to do if you prefer not to spend your time arguing. “Very well,” said I. “I will do as you ask if you will just be quiet and allow me to concentrate.” Since that day, I have been paying special attention to every word I invite into my stories. After all, a story should say exactly what it means to say and not be led astray.
