Children’s Books Coming to the Plum Tree!

For many months now, I have been working with the fabulous, Marta Pelrine-Bacon on a little children’s book idea I had a while back. The story was inspired by my marvelous 3 year old granddaughter (then 2). She loves being in the garden so much with her papa Doug, that I decided to write about their adventures. And being the keen environmentalist that both myself and Doug are, we wanted the stories to have a strong environmental theme…

Rosie & Pa Dug in the garden series was born! The stories are about how everything in the garden serves a purpose. The stories are a little peek at the garden eco-system for 3 – 5 yr olds! In the first story, Rosie wears her wellington boots…she learns that even they serve an important purpose. She is learning how to be prepared for being in the garden in all weathers…

Wolly The Worm is next, followed by a story about roots, ice, trees etc. The little books are pocket sized…5 inches by 5.5 inches and will make great presents.  All our children’s books will have very strong teaching elements as well as being fun. Rosie is quite a character! The first of these little books in the series will be available for pre-order soon. Watch this space for the release date!

Marta’s illustrations are phenomenal! Marta is also an author and her first novel. The Blue Jar will also be published by Plum Tree Books on February 10th.  More on that to follow!

About Dr Niamh

When I was a little girl (a very, very long time ago), I used to love learning new, really big words like ‘discombobulate’. As I grew, my love of words grew too, until I loved them so much, I could not stop writing them down. One day, as I was scribbling a particular word, a very peculiar thing happened. The word shouted at me, “Stop! Don’t put me there!” As you can imagine, I was shocked and nearly fell off my chair. When I recovered somewhat, I said to the word, “Could you stop shouting, please? I am not used to it.” Can you guess what happened next? No! I thought not. The word said, “I might be small, but I will misbehave if you do not use me properly. I will not tell the story you would like me to tell. I will say something entirely different!” I dropped my pen. I hoped that by dropping my pen, the word would stop talking. Alas! It did not. It carried on chitterchobbling, even after the ink had dried. I was in a pickle. I could not allow my words to run away with my story, now could I? I don’t know about you, but when this sort of thing happens, there is only one thing left to do if you prefer not to spend your time arguing. “Very well,” said I. “I will do as you ask if you will just be quiet and allow me to concentrate.” Since that day, I have been paying special attention to every word I invite into my stories. After all, a story should say exactly what it means to say and not be led astray. With love from Dr. Niamh, Ph.D in Learning Through The Imagination and Founder of Dr Niamh Children's Books. www.drniamhchildrensbooks.com

Many thanks, Janet! Well! You know about children’s books, fantasy writing and great art work, because your Maycly series is so stunning! And what a HUGE amount of work that would have been. Best of everything with it. Hopefully, we can feature you here soon telling us about your book on our Youth-Tube corner.

We are not taking submissions at present, Ampat, as our books are based on creative collaborations with members of Plum Tree Books. I create books with in-house artists, writers and poets. That is the nature of our company at the moment. It might change in the future. But thank You for your enquiry.

How very cool, Niamh. I get so discouraged by the quality of books for kids these days. These sounds wonderful!

This sounds lovely, sweet, and reminds me of one of your favorite stories- Alice in Wonderland. In fact, I can picture Marta’s illustrations for your beloved book. I know the two of you make quite the team and I can’t wait to see the final product. I have a son who will be three next month and he loves being outdoors. Tell me, can I get copies signed by both you and Marta? 🙂

I think the British word I’m looking for to describe what I see with the featured illustration is ‘posh’. Indeed.

    Truly excited.

Posh it is! And of course you can have signed copies. Plum tree Books is gearing up for the releases of Marta’s, yours, mine, a poetry book by DiAnne Ebejer, another by Susie Bertie. We have a full house, and are putting the wheels in motion. Thanks for your comment, Tonia.

This is so wonderful. Now I know my nephew is a newborn but I am thinking he would be fascinated with these books and his mom and dad could tell Luke that his Aunts Jen and Shawn knows one of the authors personally and the other one is part of the writing family I am getting to know. They will be so marvelous for Luke, I know where he is going to get a lot of his reading from. What a great job Marta and you have done. I am so excited for both on the children’s books. Congrats. & Brava!!! J.K.

Reblogged this on the secret keeper and commented:
Plum Tree Books are coming out with children books. My nephew Luke is definitely going to benefit from this venture. I will start collecting the delightful stories for when he is old enough to understand. He is a newborn at present. The first books Is about: “…Rosie & Pa Dug in the garden series was born! The stories are about how everything in the garden serves a purpose…” The author Niamh Clune and the illustrator Marta Pelrine-Bacon are both extremely talented in creating this chilldren’s book and there is another one. Please go to the site for “on the plum tree” and investigate more of what is happening with the childrens books and all other creative offerings that are present on this site. J.K. the secret keeper
