Song Of Sahel Art Wings Its Way To New Owners!

I blogged about the colour, depth and suggestion of Cher Duncombe’s work with its inherent raw passion and textures reminiscent of earth scorched and cracked by the blistering sun. Her painting has been sent across an ocean to the lucky bidder Claudio Fiore! It will hang in his new music studio…And I will get to see it often. Cher is such a talent. I will be featuring more of her art on the Plum Tree Books web-site! And you can find her there.

I mentioned the fecundity, joy, and sheer abandonment of Tahira Lubrano’s Goddess of Nature to whom we pray to bless those in Sahel. The lucky lady who bid for this is none other than Betty Dravis. Now for those of you who don’t know Betty Dravis…and let’s face it, who doesn’t know Betty?…this picture probably embodies Betty’s spirit. Betty is an inspiration to so many of us. She is not only a brilliant author, she is a reviewer and an interviewer of the stars. Betty is eternally young. I do hope we can interview Betty here soon. As for Tahira, what a talent she is too. And her blog is wonderful. She gives pictorial instruction as to how she puts her art together.

I asked Susie Bertie’s gorgeous Geisha to seduce us into spending our money on this worthy event. The lucky winner of Susie’s beautiful Geisha is Janice Kelly. Susie will not only be one our Plum Tree Books published poets, she will also be one of the Plum Tree Books featured artists on a new range of poem cards…coming soon.  Janice Kelly is a wonderful poet and musician in her own right.

I asked us to consider Maria Antonietta Terrana’s hands of many colours that reach out in need of the same things. The lucky winner of Maria’s art is Gudi Schepokat. Gudi is a dear and special friend of mine. She has a great and discerning eye for art and just loves Maria’s work. Maria is another of the Plum Tree Books artists that will be involved in our new poem card range. You will be seeing a lot more of Maria’s colourful work here and on Plum Tree Books.

And I asked us to consider Marta Pelrine Bacon’s Tree, in which innocence is nestled and protected.  Soon, (February 10th,) Marta will be releasing her first novel on the Plum Tree Books label. Myself and Marta are also soon to release a children’s book with Marta’s beautiful illustrations. Marta’s work can also be seen on the new range of poem cards. The lucky bidder for Marta’s wonderful tree is Karen Twining Fooks. Karen is not only a great friend of mine, she is also one of the trustees of SOS Sahel.

All these beautiful paintings were auctioned for the Song Of Sahel. The winning bidders are receiving the paintings as we speak…and the fantastic thing is…these artists have, between them, raised a stunning £512.00 ($823) for Song Of Sahel. I will be giving the cheque to Karen and she will be presenting it to SOS Sahel on our behalf. The beautiful book of poetry is still available for download here. When I was a little girl (a very, very long time ago), I used to love learning new, really big words like ‘discombobulate’. As I grew, my love of words grew too, until I loved them so much, I could not stop writing them down. One day, as I was scribbling a particular word, a very peculiar thing happened. The word shouted at me, “Stop! Don’t put me there!” As you can imagine, I was shocked and nearly fell off my chair. When I recovered somewhat, I said to the word, “Could you stop shouting, please? I am not used to it.” Can you guess what happened next? No! I thought not. The word said, “I might be small, but I will misbehave if you do not use me properly. I will not tell the story you would like me to tell. I will say something entirely different!” I dropped my pen. I hoped that by dropping my pen, the word would stop talking. Alas! It did not. It carried on chitterchobbling, even after the ink had dried. I was in a pickle. I could not allow my words to run away with my story, now could I? I don’t know about you, but when this sort of thing happens, there is only one thing left to do if you prefer not to spend your time arguing. “Very well,” said I. “I will do as you ask if you will just be quiet and allow me to concentrate.” Since that day, I have been paying special attention to every word I invite into my stories. After all, a story should say exactly what it means to say and not be led astray.
