The Music has been Launched! HERE also! The Web-Site has been constructed ready for the event. The radio broadcast is planned. And the anthology is ready to be uploaded. This sounds like, Camera! Action! Lights! Doesn’t it? Or is it, lights, camera! action? Whichever! The stage is set; we await the players.
This event has been months of work in the planning. From the first instance, when Doug went to Africa to join in with the rescue operation in Niger, I have been busy pulling together the various branches, strands, poets, authors and artists wishing to participate in this grand event.
The brief was: “Those who have; Those who have not” I asked people to express how they felt about the situation occurring in parts of the world where our human family are deprived of so much that many of us take for granted.
I have been featuring some of those who have participated, and this time, I want to say something about the wonderful artists who have donated paintings for an on-line auction that we will be hosting next Sunday 16th.
Cher Duncombe is donating Unrelenting, a wonderful fiery mix of earthy browns and yellows. I have actually seen earth such as this in the Rift Valley in Kenya.
Many geologists think the Rift Valley is where human life began; where the earth is literally pulling apart leaving stretchmarks across the landscape.
I hope Cher doesn’t mind that I am referring her painting to a specific place in Kenya. The painting reminds me so much of the dry, split, scorched, red earth to be found in that part of the world. Cher’s painting is full of life, literally teeming with colour and vibrancy. In it, I see forests, earth and sky. Moving in and out of Cher’s painting, the spirit of our ancestors still eke an existence, still struggle to tame the effects of burning ground. This painting is marvelous in depth and suggestion.
The painting will be shipped to the lucky, highest bidder by Cher herself. Funds will go to SOS Sahel.
The auction will be hosted on the web-site and on Facebook. More information about the painting can be seen on the web-site.
In contrast to Cher’s painting, Tahira Lubrano is donating a voluptuous Goddess of Nature.
Tahira’s Goddess dances with earth, air and water.
Perhaps a goddess such as this can do something to soften the effects of the Sahelian sun.
She is of gorgeous flow and graceful lines. She is fecund, one with nature. This Goddess fills us with hope of plenty for those in need.
This exquisite painting will also be auctioned on 16th September.
More beautiful art coming soon.

A Great Introduction to the Music and where to purchase the beautifully written and performed productions of songs for Song of Sahel and the Auction. Where Cher Duncombe has donated her painting, which is noble and majestic. Those who win the bid of her painting “The Unrelenting” will receive free shipping, also, donated by Cher Duncombe. I love the history behind the region in Kenya of which this painting reminds Niamh. The presentation of the contrast of Tahira’s Goddess bringing life to the land and Cher’s painting’s earthiness gives representation of exactly what is happening in Sahel. One is of the soil, though in its richness it is without the growth of food; in Sahel, unfortunately, the soil is dry and dusty and cannot sustain the growth of food. Then the other, a cornucopia of plenty with the Goddess of Nature. This auction will present the offering from several other artists. Please, while bidding. keep in mind all those starving children who are barely holding on as well as those who lost their hold. Be as generous as possible. Dr. Niamh Clune has done a tremendous job pulling this all together with help from some of her friends publicizing The Event and working in the backgroud. The unveiling of the Anthology of Song of Sahel will take place live on Sept 15th and the Auction will take place live on Sept 16th. Please join us for both events. It is hard to take off my promotional hat for these occasions, but I will take a break for a moment to say that it has been a tremendous pleasure to work with Niamh Clune on this project in any way that I found was possible. I have met some very special people during the whole process which I feel will develop into very good freindships. I am grateful for the experience and to the people who have been more than generous in helping me. I support and believe strongly in this project and feel hope for Sahel and hope for the events to be great successes. With Love and Appreciation, Jennifer
