Who is on the plum tree?

Tonia Marie Harris calls for participation in Youth Tube

Over the next few days, I will be introducing you to new members of the Youth-Tube team. Tonia Marie Harris has just joined us filling the role as Assistant Project Coordinator.

Tonia is a mother, writer, poet, bookworm, and blogger who declares herself to be a procrastinator in her spare time. When she’s not chasing her three spider monkeys, she spends her time revising a YA novel about life after death and second chances. She tells me that Chocolate is her kryptonite.

Tonia recognises that Youth-Tube is a new enterprise encouraging early literacy and children’s creativity. She joined the project as she was excited that we are offering a safe and constructive environment for children-ages 12 & under, to share art, stories, favorite books, music, etc.

Says Tonia, “We’re proud to announce that our first presentation is in the works. Youth Tube is collaborating with musicians, artists, and children’s authors to produce a Youth-Tube trailer.”

Tonia extends a call to all parents and grandparents!  “We would love permission to include your children in our video trailer,” says Tonia. “Please send any questions along with your high-resolution photos of children at play, reading, creating, etc. to: tonia@youth-tube.co.uk.

We express our thanks in advance for allowing your children to be part of this extraordinary project.”

I would personally like to thank Tonia. I am delighted that she has joined the team of Youth Tube On the Plum Tree.

I would like to add my thanks to Janet Young Beasley, author of Maycly: The Hidden Earth Series and videographer for Plum Tree Books for undertaking the making of our soon-to-be-launched video; huge thanks also to Jorg Bankowski for providing us with his sunshine music; thank you and big hugs to Marta Pelrine-Bacon for the gorgeous art-work. Marta is our head of Art and will be asking for submissions for children’s art. I will be featuring each of these wonderful talents soon.

About Dr Niamh

When I was a little girl (a very, very long time ago), I used to love learning new, really big words like ‘discombobulate’. As I grew, my love of words grew too, until I loved them so much, I could not stop writing them down. One day, as I was scribbling a particular word, a very peculiar thing happened. The word shouted at me, “Stop! Don’t put me there!” As you can imagine, I was shocked and nearly fell off my chair. When I recovered somewhat, I said to the word, “Could you stop shouting, please? I am not used to it.” Can you guess what happened next? No! I thought not. The word said, “I might be small, but I will misbehave if you do not use me properly. I will not tell the story you would like me to tell. I will say something entirely different!” I dropped my pen. I hoped that by dropping my pen, the word would stop talking. Alas! It did not. It carried on chitterchobbling, even after the ink had dried. I was in a pickle. I could not allow my words to run away with my story, now could I? I don’t know about you, but when this sort of thing happens, there is only one thing left to do if you prefer not to spend your time arguing. “Very well,” said I. “I will do as you ask if you will just be quiet and allow me to concentrate.” Since that day, I have been paying special attention to every word I invite into my stories. After all, a story should say exactly what it means to say and not be led astray. With love from Dr. Niamh, Ph.D in Learning Through The Imagination and Founder of Dr Niamh Children's Books. www.drniamh.co.uk
